Fear not ladies! Cosmopolis is a "limited release" which means when Cosmopolis premiers many will not have the opportunity to see the film. However, it has been brought to my attention that a limited release might not be such a bad thing after all.
A common practice by major film studios is to give highly anticipated and critically acclaimed films a limited release in December in New York and Low Angeles in order to qualify them for an Academy Award nomination as set out by the rules outlined by the Academy. These films would often receive a wider release later in January or February.
This means that not only will Cosmopolis likely be an Oscar contender this coming year, but for those of you that won't get the opportunity to see the film this month there might be a wider release in September or October.
Also while we're on the subject
Yet a new meaning may come to the term Limited Release as an upcoming DVD and Video On Demand experiment will see films released on the these platforms after only a month or so in theaters.
This means that the term would refer to the month long theatrical release in Canada and the United States, as opposed to films just released in Los Angeles and New York.
Which means Bel Ami could likely be an Oscar contender this year also! It was shown On Demand and roughly one month in limited theaters.
Rob has a great deal of buzz around Cosmopolis, which I can only see as a great sign towards a wide release and also that Oscar we've all been waiting for him to receive.

Hopeful is the word for the day. I'm hopeful that Cosmopolis will find itself
ReplyDeleteexpanding its reach in more theaters, and of course hopeful it gets the nods for Oscar time. Double whammy if Bel Ami gets a nod too.
